Unity In Diversity

What’s the colour of your skin?

Is it black, white, yellow or brown?

Physically, it sets us all apart

So wear your identity like a crown!

From which country to you come?

From the north, south, east or west?

You represent your land’s uniqueness

So epitomize what makes it best!

Your culture, your traditions, your family

Your colour, your home, your beauty

Wear your individuality as a badge

Glorify it, as is your duty!

Unity in Diversity. It’s what

Makes our hearts come closer

Spread brotherhood through the world

Find intimacy within exposure.

Without fragmentation, we are diverse

Without uniformity, we are united

Celebrate your difference my sisters

Forget the need to hide it!

Foul racism and inequality

Is going to tear the bond apart

Now or never- we must begin

To make amends we should start.

God blessed us all with this treasure

How thoughtful is the Almighty

We are different- exceptional

Only to shine ever more brightly.

Winter Flowers

While the icy wind bites my skin

And the green leaves fade grey

Amongst the lifeless branches

A pop of hues does sway.

It strikes up from  the earthen pot

Where lay the trees’ shed leaves

A strong burst of joy does dwell

A lovely sight making time freeze.

Red, yellow, and pink dahlias

Intricacy, vibrance, and hue

Smashing paast mundane chill

A blessing bright and new.

Every petal the shape of morning dew

Filled in with rainbowy pigment

Flared out like rays of the sun

Held by the emeral ligament.

Oh the divine creation: a flower

Rising up in the season of snow

A stunning  bud striking dull gales

Oh winter flower, you dazzle me so.

Making Diyas

Hi! Today we had a diya-making competition. Diyas are lighted on the day of Indian Festival Deepavali, the Festival Of Lights. Tradition says that the day Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after fourteen years of exile, everybody lit Diyas, made of earthen material to light up the dark night to celebrate his return. We do various things on this festival and lighting Diyas is a big part. Today at school we had a diya-decorating activity. Here are the pictures of the diya…

Arts And Crafts

Hello!
A few days ago, I learnt how to make some beautiful roses out of paper. Aren’t they awesome? Here they are:
jhil rose jhil rose 2
I made all of them, but the grey one and the black one was made by my sister. I must say, (not being boastful), all of them seem pretty good to me!
Well, anyway, making these roses inspired me to write a short poem about doing crafts work. So… here goes 😀

Are you feeling super bored?
Feel like you are all alone?
Feeling that all interest is gone….
That fun has dried into stone?

Shut up! There’s a lot
For you to do right now
Cause I, the crafts goddess
Have come, down you bow.

Pick up the colour paper
Squeeze the bottle of glue
Snip and snap with scissors
And carry glitter with you!

Bright and lively paints
And a colourful mud sheet
Different kinds of cutters
And a paintbrush so sleek.

Pens cursive and felt-tip
Use stickers, all so bright
And skate with your crayons
Like fireworks through the night!

Make everything turn and twist
Make the paper waltz and dance
Allow sparkle and markers to invade
Tell the crafts to shout and prance!

Because when art chooses to invade
Crafts scream out “COME ON!”
Let joy fly out in colours
All boredom will be gone!
